ASSE, American Society of Safety Engineers
Definition
The American Society of Safety professionals (ASSP) is a professional safety organization. Its members manage, supervise and consult on safety, health, and environmental issues in industry, insurance, government and education. Their web site is https://www.assp.org/.
Additional Information
ASSE organizes the committees that develop and maintain several ANSI standards, publishes the final product of these consensus processes, and owns the copyright to these standards. Examples of those most germane (relevant) to hazardous materials are:
- Practice for Occupational and Educational Eye and Face Protection Devices, ANSI Z87.1 - 2015
- Accepted Practices for Hydrogen Sulfide Safety Training Programs, ANSI Z390.1 - 2006 (R2010)
ASSE is also represented on other consensus standard committees such as the NFPA Technical Committee which handles NFPA 30 - Flammable and Combustible Liquids.
