Choose a mode. Instant grades answers as you leave each box and offers optional hints. Hardcore gives only a total score after submission. Novice also marks right and wrong answers after submission.
Enter each element's one- or two-letter symbol. Answers are case-insensitive. Two-letter entries advance automatically; use Tab, Enter or a tap for one-letter entries. Choose Across rows or Down columns for the advance order.
In Hardcore and Novice, complete all 118 boxes before selecting Submit answers. There are no correctness hints or capitalization corrections while you work. After submitting, you can edit your current answers and resubmit. Editing clears the previous score and review marks until you submit again.
In Instant, an incorrect answer becomes *. Three incorrect attempts on one element give a hint when Auto-hints is enabled. The timer stops when all 118 answers are correct.
Changing modes after starting asks for confirmation and clears the attempt only if you choose Yes. No is the default. Start Over clears your attempt while keeping your mode and advance preferences.
A score-based comment appears automatically in the table’s hint area with each submitted score or when Instant is completed. For a friendly contest, compare elapsed time and agree on any mistake penalty beforehand.
