I agree with Lee and others who have commented on this video; I am really tired of these YouTube demonstrations which include less than Best Practices and do not include any safety information.  I think it is time for using litigation to effect a remedy.

I was disappointed to see the person doing the demo having no covering on lower arms (such as a lab coat) and using the thin disposable gloves rather than something a bit thicker and going up the arm to cover wrist and lower arm.  The splash potential is not reflected here.  Nor is a cogent explanation of what is happening, including no mention SO2 evolution.

I have seen the reaction.  This is another demonstration that widely circulated.  I was a bit surprised to see where the video hit the "popular" press.  This video is on a bit larger scale than the one that typically gets circulated.  I have seen a smaller "snake" version that usually shows up around Halloween.

Of course anything that gives off SO2 should be done in a hood.  Besides that I should report that a colleague who did this as a demo rinsed the residue and disposed of it in a wastebasket--which later caught the paper on fire.  Surprise, surprise!  Guess it wasn't rinsed enough.
