EHS Working Title: Lab Safety Specialist

HR Position Title: Inspection Manager

Responsibilities:

This individual will report to the Lab Safety Program Manager of the Environment, Health & Safety Department at the University of Kansas - Lawrence Campus.

This position will provide support and assistance to the EHS Lab Safety Program Manager in carrying out the campus-wide laboratory safety program related to general lab safety, chemical hygiene and biosafety by conducting laboratory safety assessments, monitoring, auditing, and compliance assurance inspections.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Bachelor's degree in an appropriate science, engineering or safety related field, or equivalent work experience.
2) Experience with Microsoft Office or other standard office software.
3) Valid driver's license.
4) Excellent communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
5) Ability to use appropriate safety equipment as demonstrated by past experience, certifications and/or training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Biology or Chemistry.
2) Work experience in a University or laboratory environment dealing with hazardous materials and/or safety issues.
3) Familiarity with hazardous materials monitoring instrumentation and sampling techniques.
4) Familiarity with applicable Federal and State regulations.

Position Type: unclassified, professional staff, hourly, non-exempt.
Salary Range: starting minimum $46K + benefits
