Subject: Academic program ranking and safety

People in academia may be aware that yesterday the National Research
Council released its 15-year-in-the-making ranking of grad programs
nationally. Jyllian Kemsley, the C&EN blogger on lab safety issues, was
alert enough to review the criteria for these rankings for health and
safety parameters. She found none. Her report can be found at

http://cenblog.org/the-safety-zone/2010/09/ph-d-program-rankings-lack-safe
ty-considerations/

Perhaps this connects to some of the findings of the Division's safety
culture survey earlier this year...
