Oh that is really frightening.  I fight so hard against the building neutralization tanks for art and theater and now they are putting them under sinks!  The planning idiots often don't know that you can't neutralize toxic metals, fluorides, solvents, dyes, etc.  Changing the pH is a waste (pun) of time on most of our wastes.  And now, I can just bet, some yahoo is going to suggest this to an art or theater department planner to get rid of those space-eating SAAs.

You know, you can also save money by eliminating expensive acid resistant plumbing if you just don't put any acids down the drain.  And since our art acid and pickle wastes are also going to contain large amounts of regulated metals, none of them should go down the drains, period.

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Plumbing question

Good morning,

We are currently in the planning process for a College of Osteopathic Medicine. We were just sent a question in regards to some of the plumbing for the building, and I wanted to get some of your  opinions.

"We are in the midst of finalizing the pricing with the contractor on the COM and they have offered a value engineering option I would like to get you feedback on. Please advise if this is an acceptable option.
  • Delete all acid waste piping in lieu of utilizing under-counter acid neutralization tanks at five (5) locations. Valued at $213,000."

Thanks,

Paul
