Thank you, Rob, for the warning about use as waste collection.

Beyond all the usual admonitions about bonding, grounding, and whatnot, it is inevitable that some will start using these as waste containers.

When I was at the U of KY years ago, the analytical lab had 10 such metal waste containers which are not suitable for anything even mildly acidic or wet. One or two of those just happened to be leaking on the floor on the day the EPA inspection team arrived.  The department was lucky to get away with only a $25,000 fine compared to what others have gotten (shout out to Ralph in this article, BTW)  https://www.the-scientist..com/?articles.view/articleNo/16373/title/The-Million-Dollar-Mislabel/

My faculty are ignoring all safety recommendations lately and have chosen to start getting all flammable solvents for research in 20L metal drums.  What type of protocols and equipment should be in place for the transfer of the solvents from these containers?

Thanks,
Monique
