Rob and Lee,

Are the links in accordance with GHS regulations?  I was under the impression that each label for samples in the laboratory (not to be shipped) had to have the chemical name (not shorthand), manufacturer/scientist, and pictograms or NFPA/HMIS if the company still trains employees in those systems.  The 2 links below somewhat contradict each other.  The first link agrees with those that Rob posted, but the second link states what I’ve mentioned above.

There’s been much confusion in our industrial R&D lab over what is the correct way to label samples that will remain in the laboratory.  Any clarification on this matter would be extremely helpful.

Thanks!

Thanks for the references.

Assuming Neal is also enquiring about handmade labels, are there guidances for CHHOs to require/encourage?  I should think getting labeling to not use abbreviations (i.e., TFA, H2SO4, CAN, etc.), concentration if a mixture and a date of preparation may be a best reasonable standard that can be enforced.

What is the current Best Practice for labeling small containers (dilute sulfuric, acetone, etc) for lab use?  These are typically 100 mL or less and used in a small research lab.

If purchasing from a supplier, who is the supplier?
Do you have a template (for Avery labels for example) that you can share?

Thx

Neal
