Cannabis Extraction and Analysis

CHAS and CANN (Cannabis Chemistry Subdivision) present a Cannabis Extraction and Analysis workshop, which is a comprehensive review of current methodologies and best practices in the analysis of cannabis products and extraction/processing of cannabis.  Participants will learn the latest developments in extraction technologies, how to comply with testing standards, and how to operate safely.

Strategies for Teaching Chemical Safety to Undergraduates

To develop a safe working environment in undergraduate laboratories, laboratory safety practices must evolve from a strict focus on safety rules to teach risk assessment and management practices with a focus on student learning. The ACS CPT guidelines for Bachelor’s Degree Programs, as well as the NFPA 45-2015 standard can be used to assist with this transition. This workshop will review and provide practice with Job Hazard Analysis and Control Banding tools, as described in the ACS's Identifying and Evaluating Hazards in Research Laboratories document.

We will also address how Lessons Learned can be systematically developed for teaching purposes. The afternoon will provide practice in using these tools and others to meet regulatory expectations and develop learning outcomes for the safety education of undergraduate chemists and related scientists.

This workshop will be valuable for chemical educators who teach chemistry, present chemical demonstrations, participate in community outreach activities and/or provide oversight for undergraduate chemistry curriculum, particularly class and research laboratories. There is extensive opportunity for questions during the workshop.
