NC State University is the largest and most diverse research institution in the state of North Carolina.
The university is comprised of 2110 acres on the Raleigh campus, plus over 100,000 acres in research and extension farms and other facilities throughout the state of North Carolina. Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Environmental Health & Safety Center provides consultative and technical support, training and provision for regulatory compliance and effective program development and delivery to all University faculty, staff, students and visitors to the campus. The Occupational Health component provides industrial hygiene services to anticipate, evaluate and control health related issues including exposure assessments, respiratory and audiometric hazards, indoor environmental quality, ventilation and other engineering controls, personal protection and more.

North Carolina State University is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the position of:

Title : EHS Professional Working Title: Industrial Hygienist.

Essential Job Duties
The purpose of this position is to provide the professional support for the University‰??s Occupational Health programs. The incumbent will be expected to support all ongoing programs in this area and help to develop new programs where deficiencies are found. The end result is the control or elimination of health and safety risks wherever they may exist at NCSU through inspection, monitoring, training, testing, program development and communication within the campus organizations.

Other Work/Responsibilities
Reviews plans and activities for new building construction and renovations of existing facilities as needed.

Responds to hazardous materials incidents and emergencies as needed to support the EHS Emergency Response Team during and after hours.

Provides other services as assigned by the manager of Occupational Health.

Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor‰??s degree in a Physical Science, Biological Science, Environmental Science/Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Technology or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Some positions may require additional training, certifications, or licensure. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Departmental Required Skills
Must have working knowledge of regulatory requirements, including knowledge and experience with OSHA regulations.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and computer capabilities.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Master‰??s degree in Industrial Hygiene/ Occupational Health or related applied science, plus 2-3 years of progressive experience in industrial hygiene and safety with experience in industrial and research environments, including animal research. Working knowledge of regulations and guidance documents from OSHA, EPA, CDC, NIH, ACGIH, NIOSH, ICC, NFPA, AIHA, ASHRAE, etc.

Experience with field instrumentation, collecting and interpreting occupational exposure data.

Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office software.

Strong chemistry background. Experience with chemical risk assessment tools.

The purpose of this position is to provide occupational safety services to the campus community. The incumbent will be expected to support ongoing programs in this area and develop new programs where determined necessary. The end result is the control or elimination of health and safety risks wherever they may exist at NCSU through inspection, monitoring, training, testing, program development and communication within the campus organizations. The Occupational Safety Section of EHS provides services to anticipate, evaluate and control employee injuries and illnesses related to the following: Asbestos Management program, Confined Space program, Lead and Chromium program, Ergonomics, Machine Guarding, Cranes and Hoists, Fall Protection, Personal Protective Equipment, Facilities Modification Reviews, Electrical Safety, Safety Inspections, Contractor Safety, Safety Hotline, Accident and Illness investigation, along with participation in other occupational safety programs !
shared among members of EHS including but not limited to development and refinement of design and construction guidelines, design reviews of new projects, and inspections of university facilities, including lab inspections. This person would also be expected to participate as a member of the EHS emergency response team.

Minimum Experience/Education:
Minimum of a bachelors degree in safety management, engineering, technology or sciences. Minimum of 5 years of experience required.


Departmental Required Skills:
Requires a thorough understanding of occupational safety regulations. Demonstrated ability to build / manage occupational safety programs and procedures. Requires well developed communication skills, and reputation as a team player.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Prefer mixed experience including regulatory, industry, and lab spanning at least 5 years involving a variety of situations / challenges.
