There is a huge body of literature on making nitrating acid solutions and for safely carrying out nitrations. Bretherick is certainly the starting place, but a good search on Science Direct and SciFinder is called for. Then, before you do bench work, develop an SOP and go over it in detail with peers and SMEs.

Hi all,

Recently I start working on a project involving nitration with nitric acid, does anyone has an experience with this kind of reaction ? Also we are mixing nitric acid and acetic acid and then adding the compound to be nitrate, how dangerous is the mixing of the two acids I read that they are incompatible ?

Kind regards,

Nadia
