FTE 1.0; Hiring Salary Range: $66,169-82,712/yr.

Functions/Duties of Position

This position reports to the Research Safety program and provides collaborative chemical and general laboratory health and safety consultation and guidance to employees in the OHSU research mission. This includes, but is not limited to, individuals employed in research laboratories, research administration, facilities, logistics and visitors. Consultation with these individuals will focus on methods to reduce institutional losses/risk and compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations. Interaction with representatives of various regulatory agencies is also required. In addition, this position will create a Research Safety Committee and facilitate other task-focussed group meetings.

Qualifications

Required: BS in Chemistry, Toxicology or other science-related field; or Industrial Hygienist with research laboratory experience. At least five years of experience in a chemistry or toxicology related research field, or five years of specific chemical hygiene or laboratory safety work experience. A strong background in local, state, and federal environmental health and safety regulations, particularly research laboratories. Broad experience with MS Office and database applications. Collaborative, win/win style of customer interaction. Preferred: MS in Chemistry, Toxicology, Industrial Hygiene (with research laboratory experience) or other related field. At least two years of experience as a Chemical Hygiene Officer or Laboratory Safety Advisor in an academic research setting. CCHO or eligible.

Additional Details

This position is typically works regular business hours M-F, but may require emergency response outisde of this schedule. This position is located at the Marquam hill campus but will provide service to all campuses and must be willing and able to travel between campuses as required. Must be willing and able to ride the OHSU tram. May be exposed to a variety of hazards, including biological, chemical, radiological, and physical. Occasional respirator use required. Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Must be able to walk and stand for up to 4 continuous hours per day. Must be medically eligible for respiratory protection program.
