Russ, this will be great and I look forward to getting this list. Thanks so much for compiling this.

Jyllian Kemsley and I have been assembling a spreadsheet listing numerous safety-related videos that are readily available online. That project will never be finished, given the sheer number available and the frequency with which new videos are added. However, our list is fairly extensive, and we're providing the name of the video, the topic, who produced it, the length, and a brief review of the contents and quality. It should be available within the next week, though we expect it to be a "living" document=8A.

Karen,

An individual (I forget who) at the National Library of Medicine at NIH put together a page of links on laboratory safety. You might want to check it out if you are not aware of it. This site does include some links to safety videos.

I am the Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee for the SLA (Special Libraries Association).  Most librarians are usually active in the CINF division, but I think there is an opportunity to promote outreach to other divisions in the ACS.  This became evident when Val Tucci began searching for online safety videos, but found that there was not a common repository for them.  As a result, Dana Roth, the science librarian at Caltech, is putting a LibGuide together for her library that will include links to the videos.  I was hoping to post the link here and ask for feedback, but it looks like there is also a need for different types of safety information as well.  Would the CH&S division be interested in working with the SLA to develop a single LibGuide for this purpose?  Your expertise is in safety; Our expertise is in organizing information.  I think this could be a very fruitful collaboration.  Please let me know your thoughts.

We've begun to think about this as well. With google available to search the entire web as well as the manual for relevant information, we have hopes of slimming down our lab safety manual to have information specific to Cornell and relying on references such as Prudent Practices and SACL providing reference information. For this reason, we're thinking in terms of a list of FAQ's on the topics we cover, with short intros and possibility video clips in the various sections we decide we need. The challenge is reframing the information from the traditional safety professional approach of describing controls to a more lab-centric approach of recognizing hazards and managing them systemically.
It's good to hear that others are taking on this question.
