*Laboratory Safety Specialist*

Brown University's Department of Environmental Health and Safety, located
in Providence, Rhode Island is seeking a Laboratory Safety Specialist who
will provide support to faculty, students and staff to help facilitate,
assess, and promote a safe and healthy working environment in research
laboratories and research support spaces.

The major responsibilities for this position will be to conduct laboratory
and biological safety inspections, assess ventilation equipment (fume
hoods, biological safety cabinets, snorkels, etc), and assist in the
day-to-day management of the University's Laboratory Safety Program. This
position will also be involved with environmental compliance, radiation
safety, emergency response and other safety and compliance related projects.

*Qualifications*:

·         B.S. required in Biology, Chemistry, or life science related
field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience managing
Environmental Health & Safety programs.

·         Experience working in Research Laboratory, Safety Department or
Environmental Compliance.

·         Capable of obtaining medical clearances for using respiratory
protection necessary for HAZMAT response.

·         Demonstrated interpersonal skills including good presentation and
public speaking skills.

·         Must be able to obtain IATA and DOT hazardous materials shipping
certifications.

·         Must be able to lift up to 55 pounds to shoulder height.

·         Will be required to work with or around hazardous materials.

·         May need to enter contaminated zones and areas that are
immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH), wearing appropriate PPE As
an emergency responder.

·         Will be required to wear Self Contained Breathing Apparatus
(SCBA).
