I’ve had to ship them as hazardous goods on a trip to Europe.  On another trip I had them shipped directly to the site by the supplier to avoid the paperwork hassle.

They may be OK in checked baggage, I don't know, but the screeners will
definitely pull them out of a carry-on briefcase if they spot them. That is my
shaggy-dog story in a nutshell.
