*Technical Writing* I am amazed at the views expressed concerning technical writing within the Division website. The ability to write, whether it is a letter, grant, or technical report to management, is paramount to one=92s success. I entered the industrial research environment with writing skills taught in school and undergraduate college during the period 1937 to 1953. My freshman English experience was abysmal. After graduate school and academia, I entered industry. I was blessed with a supervisor who was a stickler for clarity in reports for management. He took the time to tutor me and even though the reports may have been an agonizing month or more late, they were good. As a result, my projects continued to be supported. In summary, I learned on the job. I was more fortunate than most. From the views expressed on the website, little improvement has been made in the last 70 years. Please exer t you influence to improve writing skills (or perhaps implement them) in your local school system. Rob mentioned how he corrected reports. I was very unpopular at University Y when I corrected spelling and grammatical errors in essays on particular elements assigned to each chem 101 student.
