Ben,

I would like to have you on my team when we negotiate contracts, but in this case, your good will is misplaced.  C&EN will not have any economic losses if we all send letters or a joint letter.  The most they will do is print one of the letters and a response.  That's not going to hurt anything.  And used right, this might be an opening for the editors to approach some safety companies to run ads for eyewear in that issue.

Might it not be possible to compromise?  I think we are all in agreement on the importance of safety.
No one would discourage safe practices.  No one would disagree that these are tight economic times and advertising income is necessary for the publication of the worthwhile journal in question.  As such, C&EN needs to publish the ads that it can.   SNIP.
