Just as another dues reminder.  Most of you are probably aware of the ACS Special Dues categories (student, emeritus, retired etc).  The Spouse of Member special dues categories allows one of the two spouses to deduct the cost of one print edition of C&E News, but it must be claimed each year.

This year, ACS screwed up the Spouse of Member dues category on the renewal forms.  Specifically, they mention it (as always) on the back of the renewal notice, but left it off on the back of the tear-off section you send in.  And they also forgot to state the amount you can deduct.

ACS is aware of this problem and here is the response I got from member services (for anyone who hasn't yet paid)

The amount to take as a deduction for the Member/Spouse discount is $41.68. We apologize that this was not on the form, they were sent out in error before this could be added to the template. You can simply write "spouse discount" on the form.

CHAS Members:

Last week I sent out an email intended to explain how your dues to CHAS get used and to remind you that your dues may be due now.  Most members of CHAS are on a calendar year dues basis, though newer members are on an anniversary of joining dues basis.  That email was strictly informational.

I, as treasurer and CHAS, DO NOT COLLECT DUES!

At this time, the only way to find out your dues status is to contact Jennifer Chesnes (jchesnes**At_Symbol_Here**acs.org) and ask.  She is also the person to contact if you are having any membership problems.  You can reach the ACS Customer Service Team via phone at:

800-333-9511(US)

614-447-3776 (Outside US)

Customer Service representatives are available from 8:30AM-5:00PM

I hope this helps.  If you need more information about dues, you can contact me, but my response will likely be "contact Jennifer or customer service".

As an aside, I received an email in October informing me that my dues were payable by 31 Dec.  I logged onto my account at the ACS website, and there was a pop-up asking if I wanted to renew my membership.  After I did, that pop-up disappeared, and, at this time, there is no way I can look at my account and determine my dues status.

Hopefully, ACS will fix this in 2010.

Have a good holiday season.

Neal
