The ideal candidate will implement, monitor and report University compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to environmental health and safety relating to OSHA and IDOL Bloodborne Pathogen, Hazardous Communication (Right-to-Know), Laboratory Standard (Chemical Hygiene Plan), laboratory inspections, safety equipment, protective equipment, and staff training; U.S. EPA and IEPA Hazardous chemical waste, biohazards, spills, disposal, pick-ups, documentation and regulatory requirements; and State and local Fire Marshal Homeland Security Acts, Department of Nuclear Safety, Department of Transportation (DOT and IDOT), etc. The Environmental Health and Safety Officer will also develop guidelines and activities; implement successful safety programs for the campus; and, direct, train and document all training for faculty and staff in OSHA requirements to meet all federal, state and local regulations. Assist faculty as needed in providing classroom training for students. Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in Environmental Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or closely related field. Minimum of three years professional experiences in the field, preferably in a university or state/federal position, providing knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential duties.
