Chemical safety Professional

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

 

The Division of Research Safety is seeking a full-time academic
professional to assist with the development and management of
ventilation and chemical safety programs.  Duties include organizing,
enhancing, and implementing the campus laboratory chemical hood survey
program and providing technical assistance regarding ventilation
systems.  As directed, plan, organize, develop, and implement chemical
safety programs; provide technical assistance to campus personnel on
safety; recommend policies and procedures; maintain liaison with
regulatory agencies; assist with assessment of priorities, budgetary
needs, goals, vision, and strategic plans; and participate in 24-hour
emergency response program.

 

Advanced degree in industrial hygiene, chemistry, or closely related
field or a bachelor's degree with substantial course work in the above
fields along with relevant experience in (1) laboratory ventilation
systems, (2) NFPA requirements and ANSI standards pertaining to
laboratory ventilation, and (3) chemical safety, is required.  Effective
oral and written communication skills, the ability to work as a member
of a health and safety team, and familiarity with word processing,
presentation, and database applications is essential.  Preferred
qualifications include experience with laboratory ventilations systems
and chemical safety in a university setting, training proficiency and
knowledge of relevant OSHA and EPA regulations, and professional
certification, such as CIH.

 

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Proposed
