The Division of Chemical Health and Safety had a number of highlights
at the ACS national meeting in Philadelphia last week, including
receipt of our first ever ChemLuminary Award. The award was
presented in "Recognition of Innovation and Outstanding Service to
Members of a Division".

A Wine & Cheese tasting reception was enjoyed by over 100
Philadelphia Section & DivCHAS members, as well as several current
ACS Board members and at least one former ACS president. With the
money raised from sponsors, the reception was held at no net cost to
the Division.

The technical sessions went well, although our meeting venue - the
Penthouse of Loews Hotel, while featuring spectacular views of the
Philadelphia skyline - was a bit out of the way for many meeting
attendees, causing attendence to suffer somewhat. The two technical
workshops we offered were well attended, resulting in approximately
$1650 NET revenue for the Division.

The Philadelphia meeting as a whole attracted about 13,500; attendees
were quite happy with the facilities at the new Pennsylvania
Convention Center and the general proximity of all the meeting hotels.

The 2005 National Meetings will be held in San Diego and Washington,
D.C. In addition, CHAS will be represented at at least two fall
regional meetings and three regional meetings in 2005. People
interested in helping with national programming should contact the
programming chairs, Debbie Decker for San Diego or Kathy Benedict
for Washington. To help with regional
programs, contact Ralph Stuart
