Manager, Occupational Health and Safety

 Environmental Health and Instructional Safety

California State University, Fullerton

 

The Department of Environmental Health and Instructional Safety at
California State University in Fullerton California is seeking an
Administrative II position who will serve as the Manager of Occupational
Health and Safety.

 

Duties:  The position directs and is responsible for the development,
implementation and administration of the Occupational Health and Safety
Program and acts on behalf of the director when the director is not
available.  The position is responsible for the following: food and pool
sanitation, asbestos and lead management, pesticide management,
construction safety; review and interpretation of safety regulations and
assessment of their impact on the University; review, evaluation, and
revision of health and safety programs and policies.  Provide response
and follow-up to safety inquiries.  Investigate complaints and identify
unsafe working conditions.  Assist in small-scale hazardous materials
clean up. Serve as campus liaison to Cal/OSHA, Department of Health
Services and other regulatory compliance agencies.

 

This position is responsible for the development, implementation and
management of the campus-wide Industrial Hygiene program to include
medical monitoring, confined space, personal protective equipment
selection and purchase, respiratory protection, and animal handling.
Liaison with contractors, consultants, and campus project managers to
ensure abatement projects are performed under AHERA guidelines through
project monitoring and plan review.  Manage the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)
program.  Oversee and conduct IAQ investigations based on complaints.
Conduct bioaerosol sampling to evaluate indoor microbial/fungal (mold)
contamination. Maintain the Industrial Hygiene Equipment Laboratory.
Oversees the job functions of the EH&S Officer and the Safety Trainer
providing management assistance for these areas as appropriate or
directed.   

 

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in
Environmental Health and Safety, Chemistry, Biology, or related field.
Candidate must have 3-5 years working in the field of industrial hygiene
and health and safety; must be a Registered Environmental Health
Specialist or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of the
hiring date. We seek a candidate with strong independent analysis,
organizational, supervisory, and management skills; ability to
communicate effectively; ability to establish positive working
relationships with faculty, staff and departmental colleagues.  

 

Preferred Qualifications:  A Master's degree in a Science, Public
Administration or related field.

Experience conducting food and pool inspections. Experience conducting
Indoor Air Quality related investigations. 

 

Licenses/Certifications:  The ability to obtain a valid California
driver's license is required to drive to various locations on and off
campus. Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety
Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), and
Asbestos Manager/Supervisor/Inspector experience are desired
certifications. 

 

Salary Range: $3,306 - $8,055 per month (commensurate on qualifications)
