In these pieces my particular concern was the play between two dimensions and three dimensions. In "Still Life", the background mimics, in 2-D, the free-standing wine bottle and the pear in the bowl. Or do the modeled forms mimic the drawings? The piece called "Bird Form" has images of pots within pots in 2-D which are on the curved surface of the actual vessel. I aimed for a visual pun. (It amuses me anyway.) Working in this way not only requires multiple firings and use of graphic tape but also requires two or three coats of the one-strokes and underglazes. I am thinking of loosening up and letting the color work become more gestural. Originally I majored in painting although I had clay play opportunities as a small child. Then one ceramics course in art school determined the rest of my life.
